You are invited to audition for THE MAGIC CITY NUTCRACKER, Birmingham’s Community Nutcracker ballet. This volunteer-based ballet will celebrate its 13th annual production by performing at the historic Lyric Theatre, December 3 - 6, 2026.
Auditions are Friday August 14 and Saturday August 15, 2026 at the Dance Foundation, 1715 27th Court South, Homewood AL.
You must pre-register before auditions. We will not accept walk-ups. We will close this form at 9AM Friday August 14th.

Friday, August 14
*Ages 13 - Adult - Advanced/Professional Dancers — 5:00 - 8:00 pm - Arrive btw 4:15 and 4:30
*Dancers ages 13 and up: Please review these videos (one with instruction and one with just music) and prepare to perform this combination for the auditions. Dancers may perform on flat or en pointe in the auditions. Learn to the best of your ability - there will be more instruction at the auditions. Dancers must have at least 1 year of pointe experience to be considered for pointe roles.
Saturday, August 15
Ages 5 - 6 — 9:00 - 10:00 am - Arrive btw 8:15 - 8:30
Ages 7 - 8 — 10:00 - 11:00 pm - Arrive btw 9:15 - 9:30
Adult Actors (acting-based roles only) — 11:00 - 12:00 pm -
Arrive at 10:30
**Ages 11 -12 — 1:00 - 4:00pm - Arrive at 12:30
**Ages 9 - 10 — 2:00 - 4:00pm - Arrive at 1:30

Dancers ages 5 - 8 will learn a combination at auditions. There is no video prep work for this age group.
Please arrive 30 minutes before your time slot to check in and take a headshot before your audition time.

CASTING: We will not announce casting in person on Friday or Saturday. We will post roles based on audition numbers by Monday August 24th. Details about rehearsal schedule will be available at auditions.
Professional actors may send a current CV and headshot to allison@magiccitynutcracker.org to be considered for a paid role. As a community production, we have a limited number of paid roles that are cast based on artistic staff discretion and MCPA board approval.
Professional dancers who are interested in joining the professional wing of MCPA for the 2026-2027 season may send their current CV, a reel, and headshot to stephanie@magiccitynutcracker.org and are required to attend the in person audition on Friday August 14th to be considered for a position.
WHAT TO WEAR:
Ladies and Girls: Black leotard, pink or flesh-colored tights, ballet bun, ballet shoes, pointe shoes if you have had at least 2 years of pointe classes prior to audition date
Gentlemen and Boys: White dance shirt; black dance tights or shorts; ballet shoes
Adult actors: Comfortable clothes you can move in.
Dancers ages 7 and up are expected to be enrolled in a local dance class in the fall. We encourage all dancers to continue their training at their home studios.
