You are invited to audition for THE MAGIC CITY NUTCRACKER, Birmingham’s Community Nutcracker ballet. This volunteer-based ballet will celebrate its 11th annual production by performing at the historic Lyric Theatre, Dec 6 - 8, 2024.

OPEN COMMUNITY AUDITION

Dates: Friday August 16 and Saturday August 17, 2024

Location: The Dance Foundation

1715 27th Ct South Homewood, AL 35209

DATES/TIMES:

Friday, August 16        

Ages 13 - Advanced/Professional  Dancers — 4:30 - 7:00 pm

Saturday, August 17     

Ages 5 - 6 — 9:00 - 10:00 am

Ages 7 - 8 — 10:30 - 12:00 pm

*Adult Actors (acting-based roles only)  — 12:30 - 1:30 pm

Ages 9 - 12  — 1:30 - 3:30 pm

Callbacks for dancers ages 12 and up  — 4:00 - 6:00 pm (if needed)

Please arrive 30 minutes before your time slot to check in and take a headshot before your audition time. Everyone must register using the link above before auditioning.

Please pay a $10 audition fee before arriving here: tinyurl.com/MCPA-Audition-Fee or Venmo at @magiccityperformingarts. Cash and check will also be accepted at the audition.

CASTING: We will not announce casting in person for advanced dancers (ages 13+) Friday or Saturday. We will post roles based on audition numbers within a week of auditions. We do aim to cast roles for dancers 12 and under in person, but some dancers may receive their roles the following week.

*Professional actors and dancers can send a current CV and headshot to allison@magiccitynutcracker.org to be considered for a paid role. As a community production, we have a limited number of paid roles that are cast based on artistic staff discretion and MCPA board approval.TIMES:

WHAT TO WEAR:

Ladies and Girls: Black leotard, pink or flesh-colored tights, ballet bun, ballet shoes, pointe shoes if you have had at least 2 years of pointe classes prior to audition date

Gentlemen and Boys: White dance shirt; black dance tights or shorts; ballet shoes

Adult actors: Comfortable clothes you can move in.
